The Me 262 A-1a/U4 remains one of the most fascinating and least documented variants of the world’s first operational jet fighter. Built around the massive 5 cm MK 214A cannon, the U4 was intended as a long-range bomber destroyer — an extreme late-war attempt to turn the Me 262 into a heavy anti-bomber platform.

This Limited Edition conversion set was developed specifically for the upcoming Das Werk Me 262 in 1/32 scale and recreates the U4 installation with a level of technical and historical detail previously unavailable in scale form.

The set includes the enlarged U4 nose section, a detailed internal MK 214A cannon installation, reconstructed ammunition feed components, spent case ejection details, nose compartment structure, prototype-specific nose gear options, a turned aluminium barrel, decals and a printed research booklet documenting the reconstruction process.

A premium conversion for advanced Luftwaffe ’46, prototype aircraft and historically focused Me 262 projects.

Additional Information

The Me 262 A-1a/U4 was not simply a standard Me 262 with a larger gun fitted into the nose. The installation required a completely different forward fuselage layout, with the massive MK 214A cannon, ammunition handling system and structural changes all packed into the limited space of the Me 262 nose.

For this project, we reconstructed the U4 installation using surviving photographs, original installation drawings, technical armament documentation and comparative analysis of the known prototype aircraft. Particular attention was given to the cannon arrangement, ammunition feed, spent case ejection system, nose gear integration and the visible differences between the known U4 airframes.

The result is a conversion set that allows you to build the Me 262 A-1a/U4 with a far deeper level of detail than a simple external nose replacement. The internal cannon structure, ammunition components and open-detail options make the model especially suitable for display builds, exposed technical scenes and historically focused projects.

The included printed booklet documents the reconstruction journey behind the set: what is known, what remains uncertain, which assumptions were rejected during development and how the final model was created from the available evidence. This turns the set into more than just a conversion — it becomes a small historical research package for one of the most unusual Me 262 variants ever built.

Because this first production run is released as a Limited Edition pre-order, availability will be strictly limited. Once the first run is sold out, a later production run may differ in presentation, packaging or included bonus material.
